Wharton County Radio Inc. the owner of KULP is a multimedia company sharing your favorite music, weather, sports and news across a variety of platforms. Whether it’s on your radio, phone, desktop, tablet, Alexa, Google Home or in your car, KULP will be there to keep you informed and entertained on your journey.
Headquartered in El Campo, Texas, Wharton County Radio Inc. was formed in August 2000. Two veteran broadcasters, Mike Wenglar (President) and Stephen Zetsche (Vice-President/Managing Director) are the principle owners of KULP.
Like many broadcasters, Mike Wenglar’s interest in all things electronic and the world of broadcasting began early in his life. He was born and raised in El Campo and during his sophomore year of high school began working at KULP-AM 1390 doing a show called “Mike’s Corner.”
In 2000, Wenglar had the opportunity to purchase KULP, his hometown radio station. His goal was to keep it the same as he remembered it.
Mike has been honored with two awards from the Texas Association of Broadcasters’. In 2011 fellow Broadcasters presented him with the Pioneer of the Year Award and in 2016 Mike received the TAB’s George Marti Award for Engineering Excellence.
Stephen Zetsche is currently the Vice President and Managing Partner of KULP Radio. Stephen joined Wharton County Radio, Inc. in 2004 as Director of Broadcasting. In 2009, Stephen became a Partner/Owner of KULP with Mike Wenglar.
With over 50 years in the radio industry, Zetsche has held several different positions including Director of Operations, Director of Programming, Local and General Sales Manager, General Manager and CEO.
