In a press release, Wharton County Sheriff Shannon Srubar said that just after 6PM Monday evening, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call for a medical emergency regarding an unresponsive two-year-old boy at a residence in a rural area of Wharton County.
Srubar said at the time of the call, CPR was in progress. The child was taken by EMS to the emergency room at El Campo Memorial Hospital. It was determined upon arrival that the child was deceased.
ABC13 is reporting that family members identified the boy as Daniel Escamia.
Investigators from the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers began investigating the child’s questionable death.
An autopsy was performed by the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday, and the results determining the cause of death are pending at this time.
The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Texas Rangers, the Wharton County District Attorney’s Office and Child Protective Services. Two children, a three-year-old girl and a nine-month-old boy, were removed from the home pending the outcome of the investigation.
Srubar said more information will be released when it becomes available. Anyone having information regarding this investigation should contact the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office.
